Mum, I only know 2 German words
This morning we went to German playgroup. The boys and I were outside playing on the swings when one of the German mothers pulled up in her car. 'Hallo!' she called out. `Hallo!' I replied. M commented that he couldn't talk to her because he only knew 2 words. 'Which words can you say in German?' I asked him. 'Tschues' and 'Hallo' he answered. Then I challenged him. But what about...and listed about 20 words, including the numbers 1-10. He was surprised, and pleased. We reckoned he knew probably about 50 words. It gave me an idea. As I was getting the boys up this morning, I was looking in A's wardrobe for some day clothes. On the back of his wardrobe door is M's height chart. This was given to us as a present when M was born. The last time we measured him was at 24 months, so a while ago now. Anyway, I thought after playgroup- how about we make a chart of all the words he knows already. Mark it out on a really large piece of butcher's paper and group it according to theme. So M sees that he is gradually acquiring more and more words- being the visual person that he is. I like it!
